Public vote ‘rejected imperialist propaganda’ against Establishment

TEHRAN, Feb. 29 (MNA) – Iran’s Judiciary head has said public turnout in recent elections was a response to a general call by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and denouncing of the US and UK propaganda.

Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani who was addressing a meeting of Judiciary high-ranking officials on Monday, extended his accolade to the public for a high turnout in Parliament and Assembly of Experts elections of February 26, believing that it was a renewal of allegiance to the System and the Leader’s ideals. “The elections well displayed the strength, glory, and legitimacy of the Islamic System; that was a heavenly test of the faith where people came triumphant to show the world that all propaganda against the System in the recent months had failed and that the nation will stand with their country and government,” Amoli Larijani emphasized.

Head of the Judiciary then criticized the attacks and critiques mounted against the Judiciary’s conduct of the court verdicts of executions which he believed was politically loaded. “Specific circles tried to link the Judiciary with all sorts of problems of the country. They depicted the Judiciary as a butcher regularly committing abominable crimes; however, I believe that the Judiciary merely implemented the acts of the Constitution and those passed by the Expediency Council,” said Amoli Lairjani. His criticism was a response to the rise of executions in the Judiciary which it officially announced that the majority of executions had been the convicts of drug trafficking crimes. “In some countries, even tinges of the drugs would be given a verdict of execution, and Iran’s Judiciary has been acting moderately in delaying the executions, which are otherwise legal and official verdicts of the courts who have heard the case according to the formalities necessary,” he objected.

“The specific verdicts on drug trafficking has been passed by the Expediency Council and the Judiciary has only been acting according to the law,” he added.
